Phonics book

This week we have been reviewing our sounds. You will find this book in the ELS ebook library. Use the search bar to find it.

RE Day

Butterflies enjoyed learning all about advent and the advent wreath. We spent the day making our own wreaths, paper chains and used the Lego and multilink to create some festive models. We also made our gingerbread man decorations. They look wonderful on the Christmas tree in the school hall!

STEM Week

Butterflies enjoyed a great STEM week based on the theme 'Changing and Adapting'. Inspired by the film Wall-E, we looked at how Earth had changed due to the amount of rubbish thrown away, and found out about ways to reuse and recycle our own rubbish. We then made some fantastic robots with some of the rubbish. We also learnt about how plants and animals adapt to their surroundings and planted cress seeds in different conditions to see if/how they would grow. Finally, we looked at how the humans in Wall-E had adapted to their new lifestyle in space and concluded they were not very healthy! We ventured onto the playground and took part in different workout stations that would get the humans fit in no time!

We enjoyed a walk in the village this week, spotting lots of signs of autumn and filling our pockets with conkers as we ambled through the woods! We are looking forward to returning to the same spots to see how they change throughout the year.

Fantastic Friday saw the arrival of autumn in Butterflies Class!

This week we have been reading 'Grandad's Island'. We pretended to be Syd and Grandad, and asked each other questions about how we felt during different times in the story. We had to stay in character and answer as if we were Syd or Grandad!

Cotton bud skeletons and a rather windy senses walk!

We have been finding out about England this week as part of our United Kingdom topic. We have made Lego bridges to go over the River Thames, used blocks to make Stone Henge and printed celery to paint English roses.

Animal Day!

Creepy Claws!

Bug Hotels

We made Bug Hotels as part of our Science learning. We thought about what things minibeasts would need from their habitat and tried to incorporate these features in our hotels.

Emotions Wheel

We made Emotions Wheels in PSHE to help us identify and talk about our feelings.

Fruit Skewers!

We learnt about keeping healthy in our PSHE lesson so we made some fun fruit skewers and ate them!
